What the School Management Committee should know and set up
It is mandatory to form
a school management committee in every government school. The school management
committee constituted to monitor and ensure the growth and development of the
school will consist of twenty members including the chairman and secretary.
The members of the
school management committee are elected by the parents of the students studying
in the school and the chairman and vice-chairman are elected by the members.
The Head Master acts as Secretary in the school.
The school management committee
team should be well aware of the following rights of children. To keep these
rights in mind, consider the acronym LDSP. Accordingly,
First L is right to Life,
The second D is the
right to development.
The third S is the
right to security.
The fourth P is the
right to participate.
The school management
committee should ensure that all the students in the school have these four
types of rights.
Next, 4 different
committees should be formed with the school management committee members as
leaders. The members of this committee should be the parents of the students
studying in the school. 3 to 5 parents can elect members per group.
The four groups are,
1. Student Enrollment
and Dropout Prevention Committee
2. Learning Development
Committee
3. Management Committee
4. Structural Committee
School management
committee members should not be expected to spend their money to improve the
school. Although it is their personal choice to volunteer money for the school,
they can contribute their time, labor and advice to the school and its
development and growth.
Every school is called
by parents and general public as 'Our school! Our Pride!’ It is no exaggeration
to say that it is in the hands of the school management committee members to
make them feel ‘Our School! Our pride!’
